Really thought they were just another clone of the all in one type paints. I was so wrong about that. They behave differently you can wet blend , shade and also use them for the base and highlighting aspect. Was a little disappointed at 1st with the small scale release but man the opportunities you have with these 12 colors are almost endless. Without doubt I can’t wait for the 2nd and 3rd sets because few colors I can’t achieve yet but this set is a home run don’t get me started on the Special Sauce and the magic it works with the standard Pro Acryl range. I truly understand what Jason meant on stream when he said he wanted a paint that grows with you. IMO 1-step is far and above the competition in this category of paints. None of the other companies has impressed me with the application of their product on flat surfaces. 1-step knocks it out of the park.
I tried a few colors on some Imperial Assault models that I still haven't painted 10 years later and, I gotta say, there's something about these colors and the formulation that just scratches the itch. I use primarily another brand's speed paints and have gotten used to them and they're great, but 1 Step just feels better. Maybe they feel more like a standard acrylic coming off of the brush. 🙈 The working time is about perfect...not too overly long but plenty of time to play and blend and fix mistakes. I haven't seen any coffee staining. And that purple made me make inappropriate noises when I first painted it onto a test swatch. Great job, Monument Hobbies! I can't wait to see what other people colors you release (hint hint brighter red hint hint). They also taste great drizzled over fresh sourdough bread. 🍞
